Fox's Chris Wallace: Taylor Was "Very Impressive" And "Very Damaging" To Trump
Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said on Wednesday that acting Ukraine Ambassador William Taylor was a “very impressive witness” who offered “very damaging” testimony regarding President Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, according to Newsweek.
Taylor testified before the House Intelligence Committee that Trump’s interest in Ukraine investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son was extensive. At one point, Trump pressed U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland on the investigations over the phone, after which Sondland told one of Taylor’s staffers that the president “cares more about the investigations of Biden” than Ukraine.
Wallace said Taylor’s testimony was significant, while also noting that “when you get cross-examination by the defense attorney, sometimes it turns out not to be quite as effective.”
“Having said that, I think that William Taylor was a very impressive witness and was very damaging to the president,” Wallace added.
The anchor also characterized Taylor as a “pretty impressive presence” and “very nonpolitical,” Newsweek reported.
Kenneth Starr, who joined Wallace on the Fox News panel, agreed that Taylor’s testimony was impressive but claimed it was entirely hearsay. Starr also suggested that no quid pro quo could be present considering that Trump released Ukraine’s military aid on September 11.
“Can I just say as a point?” Wallace countered. “It was released two days after the whistleblower complaint went to the Intelligence Committee.”
