Brit Hume joined Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday to discuss the Democrats’ Green New Deal, and along the way, Hume found an opportunity to take a sexist swipe at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
According to Media Matters, Carlson wondered what establishment Democrats really think of the progressive movement’s Green New Deal, leading the pair to opine on the apparent success of Ocasio-Cortez since she took office in January.
Hume said what the freshman lawmaker has going for her is that she makes news.
“And that's why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for all of her callowness and arguable shallowness is able to become so prominent. She makes news,” Hume said.
Cue the sexist comment: “And she's kind of compelling, she's kind of adorable in sort of the way that a 5-year-old child can be adorable.”
This “adorableness” has facilitated Ocasio-Cortez’s rise within the party, Hume concluded.
“And she is, for the moment, I think it's fair to say she's the de facto leader and the Democrats in the House of Representatives.”
