Fox News Anchors Show Admiration For Ukraine Ambassador, Turn On Trump
Former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch delivered clear and powerful testimony during Friday’s impeachment hearing on Capitol Hill, leading even Fox News anchors to express admiration and sympathy for her, according to Axios.
Among them were Bret Baier and Chris Wallace, both of whom described Yovanovitch as a sympathetic witness.
President Donald Trump tweeted about the longtime diplomat as she was testifying, in an apparent attempt to shift the narrative in his favor; however, the move appears to have backfired, after some indicated the president might have invited a new article of impeachment for witness intimidation.
Baier indicated as much on Friday, saying that Trump’s action “enabled Schiff to then characterize that tweet as intimidating the witness or tampering with the witness, which is a crime. Adding essentially an article of impeachment real time."
He noted that the tweet was “a turning point” in the hearing and characterized Yovanovitch as an “already sympathetic witness.”
Likewise, Wallace — who noted that the ambassador has served the country for more than 30 years — said during a break in the hearing: "If you are not moved by the testimony of Marie Yovanovitch today, you don't have a pulse."
