Records show that President Donald Trump’s daughter and adviser, Ivanka Trump, conducted government business from a private email account before she was employed by the government, according to Huffpost.
- The former head of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, Walter Shaub, shared two messages uncovered by American Oversight, a nonpartisan watchdog group.
- Shaub shared the messages on Twitter, one of which showed Ivanka Trump conducting business with Education Secretary Betsy DeVos a month before the president’s daughter had an official role in the administration.
- A second email, “which was from several days earlier, referred to a government official as her ‘chief of staff.’”
- The messages were discovered in 2017 via a Freedom of Information Act request. They have received new attention in light of allegations in former national security advisor John Bolton’s upcoming book.
The use of a private email server was one of the main rallying points against Hilary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election, prompting cries of “lock her up” at Trump rallies.
