Former CIA Director Says The U.S. Is ‘No Longer A Democracy’ Under Trump
The United States is “no longer a democracy” under President Donald Trump, former CIA Director John Brennan said on Sunday.
Speaking with NBC’s Meet the Press host Chuck Todd, Brennan said the country is not a democracy if it is in the hands of an autocrat, according to The Washington Examiner.
The former intelligence official was asked to assess the U.S. in the manner he would a foreign country.
"We would look at it as a very corrupt government that is under the sway right now of this powerful individual, who has been able to just corrupt the institutions and the laws of that country,” he said, adding, "I think it's no longer a democracy if an autocrat has it in his hands.”
"The democratic principles upon which this country are founded are eroding right now."
