The woman lashed out at the bystander, “I think I’ll get real close to you and cough on you then, how’s that?”

According to First Coast News, an angry customer at St. Johns Town Center store in Jacksonville, Florida, purposefully coughed on a bystander who was filming the dispute between the customer and a store cashier.

  • Heather Sprague, who is a brain tumor patient with a compromised immune system, is now “left a little concerned after a customer purposefully coughed on her inside Pier 1.”
  • The angry woman was “verbally harassing the cashier about [an item] return for about 15 minutes” while her “two children were wandering around Pier 1,” the report stated.
  • As soon as Sprague started to film the encounter, the irate customer invaded her personal space and coughed on her.

“I wanted her to know she was being held accountable for her actions,” Sprague explained. “I did not speak, react, or engage. Simply stood to document the behavior.”

  • Sprague wrote about the incident and also posted her video of the angry customer in a Facebook post, writing, “Within 30 seconds of filming her tirade was done and she left the poor staff in peace...I’m off to find a Covid test.”

Sprague filed an incident report with the Town Center’s corporate office before she left, and although she does not plan on filing a police report with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, she “is glad Pier 1 has it documented in case she does get sick,” wrote First Coast News.
