Former Oklahoma lawmaker Ralph Shortey (R) pleaded guilty to a single federal charge of child sex -trafficking. Shortey had originally been charged with two counts of child pornography, one count of child sex-trafficking, and one count of production of child pornography. The other charges were dropped on the condition that Shortey plead guilty to a single count of child sex-trafficking.
Shortey had voted for Oklahoma's anti-trans 'bathroom bill'.
We find it highly ironic that Senator Shortey voted to advance this legislation out of committee, and less than a year later, he was caught in what appears to be actual predatory behavior toward a vulnerable youth, Freedom Oklahoma said in a press release issued today.
On March 9, 2017 Shortey was caught with a teen prostitute in an Oklahoma motel.
Police here are investigating why state Sen. Ralph Shortey was in a hotel room last Thursday with a teenage boy. Police are reviewing text messages purportedly exchanged between Shortey and the teenager as part of the investigation, The Oklahoman has learned. Police became involved because of concerns raised by a relative of the boy.
Shortey had child pornography on his mobile phone. He used his mobile phone to send videos of children.
The two transportation of child pornography charges stem from allegations that he used a smartphone to send a video involving a "prepubescent girl" and videos involving young boys from an America Online email address in October 2013, the documents said.
Shortey persuaded a child to send him an 'inappropriate picture'.
The production of child pornography charge is connected with an allegation that he persuaded a minor to send at least one inappropriate picture. Shortey is accused of starting a conversation with the minor on a social media application in February 2016 and the production of child porn happened between then and March 2017, the court documents said.
