Mr. Trump’s syntax has diminished greatly with age. His syntax his diminished to such an extent that he appears unable to explain things beyond using simple terminology.
For over three decades, experts, in general, have seen a correlation between diminishing language ability and neurological decline.
Ben Michaelis, a Psychologist contacted by Stat news, said that some cognitive decline is part of aging, however, Mr. Michaelis asserts that the President showed signs of diminishing syntax even in 1988.
1988 Interview with Oprah:
“The reason linguistic and cognitive decline often go hand in hand, studies show, is that fluency reflects the performance of the brain’s prefrontal cortex, the seat of higher-order cognitive functions such as working memory, judgment, understanding, and planning, as well as the temporal lobe, which searches for and retrieves the right words from memory. Neurologists, therefore, use tests of verbal fluency, and especially how it has changed over time, to assess cognitive status.”
“It’s hard to say definitively without rigorous testing”, said John Montgomery, a psychologist and adjunct professor at New York University in reference to Trump’s actual mental state, “but I think it’s pretty safe to say that Trump has had significant cognitive decline over the years.”
