Kash Patel previously served as an aide to Rep. Devin Nunes on the House Intelligence Committee.

The former aide to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) who spearheaded the lawmaker’s efforts to discredit the Russia investigation has joined the Office of National Intelligence as a senior adviser to new acting director Richard Grenell, according to Politico.

Kash Patel, who moved from the House Intelligence Committee to join the National Security Council’s International Organizations and Alliances directorate last year, was Nunes’ “top staffer on the House Intelligence Committee and was the lead author of a report questioning the conduct of FBI and DOJ officials investigating Russia’s election interference.”

The move comes as President Trump tries to root out administration officials he perceives as hostile to his presidency and replace them with more loyal individuals.

The president chose Grenell — his vocally pro-Trump ambassador to Germany — to replace former acting DNI Joseph Maguire this week, after an intelligence briefing delivered to the House Intelligence Committee sparked the president’s ire.

During the briefing, lawmakers of both parties were told that Russia is working to interfere in the 2020 election to help Trump stay in office.
