President Trump sends Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell well wishes

When asked about Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell in the White House briefing room on Tuesday, President Donald Trump stated he hadn’t “really been following it too much” but that he “just wishes her well,” according to a CNN reporting by Pamela Brown.

  • The well wishes have prompted criticism and brought renewed scrutiny into the relationship between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died by suicide in his prison cell last year. Republican lawmakers like Chip Roy chastised the president, writing in a tweet that the comment was “unacceptably obtuse.”
  • Trump, who reportedly met Epstein in the late 1980s, was photographed with Epstein’s longtime girlfriend and associate many times through the years. Epstein’s former business partner, financier turned convicted felon Steven Hoffenberg, told CNN:

“There’s no dispute...they knew each other well…”

  • Trump showered Epstein with praise in a 2002 interview with New York Magazine, claiming he was a “terrific guy.” However, the president did a full reversal last year after Epstein was arrested, alleging that the pair had a falling out and he had kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-lago years before.
  • Maxwell has spent the last year in hiding as more victims have come out revealing Epstein’s abuse, many of whom claim that Maxwell had groomed them to be sexually abused.
