“We are beyond the point where we wonder what Donald Trump is doing. He is promoting terrorism.”

CNN national security analyst Juliette Kayyem, who served as President Barack Obama’s assistant secretary for intergovernmental affairs in the Department of Homeland Security, said Thursday that President Trump is “promoting terrorism” and “supporting white supremacy.”

Speaking with CNN’s Brianna Keilar, Kayyem said, “It doesn’t really matter what Trump says, if it’s coy, if it’s confusing...what matters is what white supremacists are hearing.”

“We are beyond the point where we wonder what Donald Trump is doing,” she continued. “He is promoting terrorism.”

“It is violence to affect political consequences, in this case he wants violence around the election,” Kayyem said. “And he is supporting white supremacy groups and racist groups.”

“Once you accept that, then what he says doesn't matter. We know exactly what he’s doing. And I do worry we spend too much time focused on him and not on what we can do to protect ourselves, to protect the election process.”
