Ex-Cops Indicted In Fatal Shooting Of Black Woman And Beating Of Black Man
Former Mississippi police officers Christopher Wade Robertson, 28, and Bryce Gilbert, 27, have been indicted in the brutal 2018 beating of James Barnett, and Robertson was also charged with manslaughter in the 2019 shooting death of Dominique Henry, according to Raw Story.
- Both men were charged with aggravated assault for the beating of Barnett, and Robertson was charged with manslaughter in the death of Henry, the Laurel Leader-Call reported.
- Barnett’s encounter with the police occurred after he turned around to avoid a police checkpoint, triggering a 20-mile police chase in May 2018. He claimed that the pair repeatedly kicked him in the face wearing steel-toed boots after telling him to lie down on the ground following the chase. He also reported being harassed while getting treated afterwards at a nearby hospital.
- Barnett filed a complaint against the two men, claiming that they had “brutally assaulted and publicly tortured.” The case was dismissed in November 2019 after a settlement was made.
- Just days later, Robertson shot a 30-year-old black woman to death after she reportedly attempted to steal his wife’s car. He claimed the shooting was out of self defense, but the woman’s family disagrees.
