Ex-Boston Globe columnist Mike Barnicle suggested that it is now time to consider using the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office before he causes greater crisis amid the coronavirus outbreak, according to Raw Story.

Speaking on MSNBC with hosts Joe Scarborough and Mike Brezezinsky in an interview, Barnicle condemned Trump’s statement that coronavirus victims might be treated with injections of household cleaners.

“In a rational, political world, of which we are not part, we’re no longer a part of that, there is no longer a rational political world around us, I’ll tell you what might be on their minds: the 25th amendment,” Barnicle said. “Yesterday, the president of the United States actually posed a threat to public safety, to the public safety of the citizens of this country.”

“Those are the musings of a man who has spent a whole lot of his lifetime in a tanning bed,” he continued. “He’s been exposed to ultraviolet rays to make it look like he has a tan all the time. Those were the irrational rants of a man who, somewhere out there in the country, god forbid, some adherent of him, someone who follows him closely and adores him, and there are many people like that, will take a sip of Clorox bleach today to ward off the virus, and they will die.”

On Thursday at the White House, Trump commented about how disinfectants could eliminate the novel coronavirus on surfaces and in the air, The Washington Post reported, going on to suggest they could perhaps be used as treatments for patients.

“I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute,” Trump said in Thursday’s press briefing. “And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets inside the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”
