Nixon-era White House counsel John Dean testified before the House Judiciary Committee this week regarding potential obstruction of justice by President Donald Trump, but Republican Rep. John Ratcliff (R-TX) appeared most concerned with Dean's negative comments about Trump on Twitter.
Ratcliff said, “In the last two years did you know that you sent 970 tweets about Donald Trump? All 970 tweets about Donald Trump are anti-Donald Trump.”
Dean was a key witness in the Watergate scandal, but plead guilty to participating in the cover-up and did time in prison for his actions. During his congressional testimony this week, Dean drew ties between Trump and what happened in Watergate. Ratcliff attempted to discredit Dean for bias against Trump.
The president has also directly attacked Dean on Twitter, saying, “Can’t believe they are bringing in John Dean, the disgraced Nixon White House Counsel who is a paid CNN contributor. No Collusion - No Obstruction! Democrats just want a do-over which they’ll never get!”
Dean responded in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, "Well, I'm honored to be on his enemies list...I was able to make Nixon's at the end, and so I'm pleased that I'm on Trump's given my feelings about the threat he is to this country," according to The Hill.
