Donald Trump Jr. Recklessly Tweets Identity Of Alleged Whistleblower
Donald Trump Jr. shared a Breitbart article on Wednesday claiming to identify the intelligence community whistleblower whose complaint is at the heart of House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.
According to RawStory, the article named the alleged whistleblower — whose identity Trump Jr., his father, and numerous allies of the president insist should be made public — and said the official “worked closely” with anti-Trump forces during the 2016 election.
While some Republican lawmakers have called for the whistleblower’s name to be released, others have bucked the president and said doing so would set a dangerous precedent.
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) told Politico that Republicans “”should follow the law. And I believe the law protects whistleblowers.”
Likewise, Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) said, “The whistleblower statute is there for a reason. And I think we need to respect the law where whistleblowers are concerned. Eventually that person may decide to come forward voluntarily.”
