Don Jr: I Didn’t Realize The Whistleblower's Name Was “Some Sort Of Big Secret”
President Donald Trump’s eldest son defended his decision to tweet the alleged name of the Ukraine whistleblower during an appearance on The View on Thursday, saying he did not realize the individual’s identity was “some sort of big secret.”
“I didn't even realize that this thing is some sort of big secret!” Donald Trump Jr. said, according to the Daily Mail.
The day before, Trump Jr. tweeted a link to a Breitbart article which published what the news outlet believes is the name of the intelligence community whistleblower who sparked an impeachment inquiry into the president’s dealings with Ukraine.
“The whole point of releasing a name is to intimidate someone, to threaten someone, and to scare other people from coming out,” said co-host Abby Huntsman, who is the daughter of Trump’s ambassador to Russia. “That's something that dictators do.”
“I literally quote-tweeted an article that had the guy's name in the title of the article,” Trump Jr. responded, insisting that he is the target of threats himself. “I wish the outrage would be equal. I mean, there was no outrage when my family got an exploding letter ... with white powder substance in it.”
The president’s son said he has no regrets about his tweet, adding, “I don't think I should have to forgo my First Amendment rights.”
Following his appearance on the show, Trump Jr. tweeted: “I don't think I've enjoyed an interview this much in my life. Guess you could say that I just #Triggered The View!!!”
