The LGBT Equality Act seeks to prohibit discrimination against individuals on the basis of gender or sexual identity.

According to LGBT rights initiative the New Civil Rights Movement, the leader of a “go-to” organization for psuedo-science for members of the far right claims that the LGBT Equality Act will destroy Christianity, a religion that has existed for more than two millennia and is practiced by 2.3 billion people around the world.

“I think it’s really super important for all listeners to realize this law, if it passes, if this bill becomes law, it impacts everyone. And a better name for it is the ‘Death to Christianity Act.’ OK? That’s going to be the umbrella," said executive director of the America College of Pediatricians (not the actual professional group, the American Academy of Pediatrics) Michelle Cretella.

"Christianity, it will cease to be publicly practiced. It’ll become against the law,” she claimed on Friday.

According to Human Rights Campaign, the Equality Act is a proposal to “provide consistent and explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people across key areas of life, including employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.”

Simply put, the Equality Act builds upon existing civil rights laws to include gender and sexual identity as protected areas against discrimination. Nowhere does it stipulate the persecution of Christians or the prohibition of any religion .

Cretella made her claims without evidence in a Friday segment of “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins.” Perkins’s group, the Family Research Council, is listed as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, as is Cretella’s American College of Pediatricians.
