Chris Christie's Portrait Will Cost More Than His Three Predecessors' Combined

Former Gov. Chris Christie hired an Australian artist to paint his official portrait, costing taxpayers $85,000.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is reportedly paying a hefty sum for his taxpayer-funded official portrait -- an Australian artist will walk away with $85,000 after painting the Republican.

And according to The Associated Press, New Jersey taxpayers will be shelling out more than three times the cost of the last three governors’ portraits combined.

The Record reports that Australian artist Paul Newton will paint the portrait of the Republican who left office after eight years in January.

The cost detail was obtained through an open records request.

Democrats Jon Corzine, Richard Codey and Jim McGreevey spent a combined $74,500 for theirs. None served for two terms.
