According to data from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), "2,555,959 science and engineering (S&E) articles were published around the world in 2018," Statista reports. This is up from 1,755,850 recorded just ten years ago.
China increased research output at a rate double the world's average over the past decade, Statista noted, causing the U.S. to lose the lead it held in 2008 as the world's foremost S&E research publisher.
