CALLISTA GINGRICH, TRUMP’S PICK FOR VATICAN AMBASSADOR, FACES CONFIRMATION HEARING TODAY

President Donald Trump’s pick for Vatican Ambassador, Callista Gingrich faces her Senate confirmation hearing today before the Senate foreign relations committee.

Mrs. Gingrich, a deeply religious Catholic, has sung professionally in the choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine in Washington, D.C. In 2009, she was responsible for converting her husband, former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich, to Catholicism.

In 2012, she told the New Yorker Magazine, that her husband’s conversion, “was one of the happiest moments of my life.”

Mr. Trump’s appointment of Mrs. Gingrich has miffed some conservative Christians since she was her husband’s mistress prior to marrying him.

Before marrying the current Mrs. Gingrich, Mr. Gingrich had both of his previous marriages annulled, something that means the children of his previous relationships are arguably illegitimate in the eyes of the Church. Mr. Gingrich reportedly breached his marriage vows in his previous marriages. This is only relevant because Mr. Gingrich is quick to become sanctimonious when given a platform. He allegedly handing divorce papers to his first wife while she was in the in the hospital.

Following his annulments, Mr. Gingrich joined his new wife at Church with the zealousness of a new convert.
