Before Reporters, Trump Asks Chinese Gov't To Investigate Joe Biden And His Son

The president has become more brazen in pressuring foreign countries to investigate one of his top political rivals.

Addressing reporters on the White House lawn Thursday morning, President Donald Trump doubled down on his belief that Ukraine should investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son — and this time he said China should do the same.

According to Axios, a reporter asked the president: “What exactly did you hope Zelensky would do about the Bidens on the phone call?”

And Trump responded: “Well I would think if they were honest about it, they would start a major investigation into the Bidens. It's a very simple answer. They should investigate the Bidens.”

Yesterday during a joint presser with Finland’s president, Trump refused to answer the same question from a Reuters reporter, but on Thursday the president went into detail about what he expected from Ukraine.

He also threw another country into the mix, urging China to investigate his potential political opponent as well.

“How does a company newly formed and all these companies -- by the way, likewise, China should start an investigation into the Bidens. Because what happened in China is just about as bad as what happened with Ukraine. So I would say that President Zelensky, if it were me, I would recommend that they start an investigation into the Bidens. Because nobody has any doubt that they weren't crooked. That was a crooked deal 100%.”

As more details surrounding Trump’s pressure on foreign leaders to investigate the Bidens become public knowledge — and have led to an impeachment inquiry — the president has only become more firm in his assertion that he has done nothing wrong.

Thursday’s comments represent the second time Trump has publicly called on a foreign government to investigate his likely political rival.
