Baltimore Church Kicks Ben Carson Off Its Property After He Defends Trump
U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson was kicked off a Baltimore church’s property while holding a press conference. He was visiting the city to talk about federal programs that could be advantageous to Baltimore, according to CBS Baltimore. The day before Carson’s visit, Trump tweeted that Baltimore was a “rat and rodent-infested mess.”
Although he was a surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital for over three decades and says the city is special to him, Carson seemed to concur with Trump’s sentiments. For doing so, a church kicked Carson off its property.
“There are a lot of excellent and wonderful people here,” he said, “and there are a lot of good places in Baltimore as well. But there are problems and we can’t sweep them under the rug.”
Carson went on to compare Baltimore to a cancer patient. Although a cancer patient can be dressed up, the “cancer is going to have a devastating effect.”
“You’re going to have to address that issue if you’re ever going to solve it,” he added.
“The federal government has invested a lot of money into Baltimore and will continue to do so,” he said. “But you can see from looking around, there are problems here in Baltimore.”
Carson, who was a pediatric neurosurgeon at Hopkins, said that after operating on children for “hours and hours,” he found himself hesitating to send the kids back to certain neighborhoods, such as East Baltimore or West Baltimore.
“Where there were rats, roaches, mice, and ticks,” Carson said, “where there was just an unabated lead problem that was having devastating effects on the mental development of young people.”
“Somehow — I guess that’s how God works — I ended up as the Secretary of HUD,” he continued. “And we can actually deal with these issues.”
“I’ve talked to the President over a couple of days about what we can do for Baltimore,” Carson said. “He’s very willing to work with people here in Baltimore, including with Elijah Cummings, but the President’s emphasis is on the people.”
