Ohio state Rep. Nino Vitale (R) mocked Governor Mike DeWine (R) after his office announced that the governor had tested positive for COVID-19.
- According to a screenshot shared by Tyler Buchanan of the Ohio Capital Journal, Vitale wrote in a Facebook post: “While I certainly wish no ill will nor poor health on the governor, I think the question must be asked. Has he not been wearing his mask, or do masks not stop the spread?”
- Buchanan recalled in another tweet that Vitale “once suggested DeWine knew about the coronavirus in *March 2019* in order to secure "total dictatorial power" ahead of time.”
- Vitale’s question about masks reveals a lack of understanding of their purpose. Masks do not protect the wearer from getting the virus. Masks help reduce the chance of a sick person spreading the virus — which is why the practice is most beneficial when everyone wears a mask.
