Analysis: Trump’s Press Secretary Had More DUIs Than Actual Press Briefings
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham is exiting the West Wing after serving in the position for less than a year, according to CNBC.
Grisham, who reportedly will rejoin First Lady Melania’s team as chief of staff, replaced Sarah Sanders last June and subsequently failed to hold a single press briefing while in her post.
In fact, the holdover from President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign has had more DUIs than she has White House press conferences.
As revealed by Grisham’s mugshots (pictured above), the administration official has been arrested twice: once in 2013 and again in 2015, both times in Arizona.
As the New York Daily News reported last year:
According to cops, Grisham also had a loose relationship with the truth before becoming White House spokesperson. During her 2013 arrest outside Phoenix, Grisham, driving on a suspended license, told police she hadn’t been drinking, then blew a .105, which earned her a DUI.
She pleaded guilty again after being busted behind the wheel in 2015 and sentenced to a treatment program.
Per CNBC, Grisham said Tuesday that her “replacements will be announced in the coming days and I will stay in the West Wing to help with a smooth transition for as long as needed,” suggesting that more than one person will take over her roles, which along with press secretary included White House communications director.
Trump campaign national spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany and Pentagon spokesperson Alyssa Farah reportedly are the top contenders to replace Grisham.
The news outlet also noted that Grisham had “become increasingly marginalized” as the coronavirus crisis roiled the administration and the country, with Vice President Mike Pence’s spokesperson, Katie Miller, taking a more prominent communications role.
