Analysis: If Trump Interns The Homeless In ‘Facilities’, We Are No Longer Free
According to the Washington Post, President Donald Trump is reportedly exploring putting homeless Americans in federal facilities because in the words of the president:
“We can’t let Los Angeles, San Francisco and numerous other cities destroy themselves by allowing what’s happening,” Trump told reporters Tuesday aboard Air Force One. He avoided offering specific solutions.
“The people of San Francisco are fed up and the people of Los Angeles are fed up, and we’re looking at it, and we will be doing something about it at the appropriate time,” Trump said.
If Trump puts homeless Americans into federal internment camps (see extended article here), without their consent and absent any due process or judicial review, then the United States is no different than China or Russia.
In any event, how would one tell the difference between a homeless American and a housed American?
For some people, there would appear to be no difference in appearance.
Some people don’t shave everyday. Many people work outside. Some Americans routinely come home sweaty and smudged with dirt. In many cases, the difference between perceiving someone as homeless or non-homeless could be a shower, some clean clothes, and a shave. Do you trust the Trump administration to manage these distinctions?
Americans cannot give Trump this type of awesome power. If we do, he will use it to destroy our constitutional legacy.
