Criminal Court Judge Jim Lammey said that the racist Facebook memes were not proof of racism on his part.

A Tennessee judge is facing intense backlash for posting racist memes and articles on his Facebook page, including one piece on April 5 that said that Jews should “get the f--- over the Holocaust” and that Muslims are “foreign mud,” according to British newspaper The Independent.

In light of the racist Facebook activity, several groups in Memphis, Tennessee are demanding that state officials publicly take action against Criminal Court Judge Jim Lammey. These organizations include the Memphis Branch of the NAACP, Memphis Islamic Center, American Muslim Advisory Council, Jewish Community Partners, the Anti-Defamation League Southeast Region, the National Civil Rights Museum, Tennesseee Holocaust Commision, and several others.

Lammey has since made his Facebook profile private. He was elected to the bench in 2006 and won re-election for another eight years in 2015.

Lammey in a Commercial Appeal interview claimed that he is still a fair judge and that he “certainly doesn’t agree” with “being a Hoocaust denier.”

“My best friend — who’s deceased now — was Jewish and I wouldn’t do that,” he said.

The organizations demanding that city officials act on the matter wrote a letter that called the April 5 post “one example of his habit of sharing articles, conspiracy theories, and ‘jokes’ online that carry a dark message of hatred.”

"The content he spreads often targets Muslim and Latin American immigrants,” the letter reads, “which is troubling because of Judge Lammey’s elected position overseeing criminal trials as a representative of the State of Tennessee.”
