Republicans Are Against Abortions For Women Who Aren’t Their Mistresses

Several in the GOP have championed abortions for their mistresses while hoping to ban the procedure for all other women.

Republican politicians seem to be highly skilled at telling Americans of all stripes how they should go about living moral lives, but increasingly, it seems they aren’t so good at practicing what they preach.

Case in point, numerous old-fashioned conservatives — the type that tend to believe marriage is solely between a man and a woman, abortion is murder, and sex outside of marriage is a sin — have been caught either encouraging their mistresses to get abortions or even going so far as to help pay for the procedure.

Rep.Tim Murphy (R-PA) - Philanderer and Congressman who thought his mistress was pregnant. He urged her to have an abortion. Resigned from Congress.

Scott DesJarlais- Philanderer and Congressman who pressured a 24-year-old mistress to get an abortion.

Elliot Broidy - Trump ally who paid for the abortion of his Playboy mistress (***some have said that Broidy paid for the abortion, but the child was Trump’s.)

Scott Lloyd - Anti-choice fanatic empowered by the Trump administration. He helped pay for his girlfriend’s abortion.

From The Guardian:

Meet Scott Lloyd, the head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement; in theory he’s responsible for supporting refugees build a better life in America by providing them with financial and medical assistance. Under previous administrations, this included abortion services. But we live in a God-fearing America now, and Lloyd has made it his mission to ensure refugee women, including unaccompanied minors, don’t get abortions. He even blocked a 17-year-old-girl who had been raped from having an abortion. “The child – the one who is destroyed – is not an aggressor,” he argued in a report. No Scott, the child isn’t an aggressor; you are.

As Mother Jones reported this week, despite his patronizing proselytizing, Lloyd doesn’t always practice what he preaches. As a young man he drove an ex-girlfriend to get an abortion and paid for half of it.

Lloyd joins an illustrious list of Republicans whose stance on abortion is basically: “It’s OK for me; evil for thee.” Earlier this year, for example, it emerged that Elliot Broidy, the former RNC deputy finance chairman paid $1.6m to a Playboy Playmate he had an affair with, after she aborted his child.

The Guardian highlights a couple more Republicans who are members of Lloyd’s club:

Tim Murphy

This Pennsylvania pro-life Republican resigned his office after it was uncovered that he had encouraged his mistress to consider an abortion when the two believed she might be pregnant.

Scott DesJarlais

During his divorce trial, it came to light that DesJarlais had supported his wife’s decision to have two abortions before the two were married — but that’s not all.

The Tennessee congressman and former doctor also allegedly pushed a 24-year-old patient, with whom he was having an extramarital affair, to get an abortion as well.

Even after all that information came out DesJarlais still had the gall to vote for anti-abortion bills and boast of having a “100% pro-life voting record."

“Do as I say, not as I do” apparently is the mantra of the Republican party, which these days seems endlessly caught up in scandals, affairs and indictments.
