White House Wants To Spend $2 Billion On AI and Quantum Computing
The White House is calling for $2 billion to be spent on artificial intelligence and quantum computing research, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The White House announced the figure on Monday, which would double the nondefense research-and-development spending on artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum information sciences. Competition in the industry has been ramping up and the White House is determined not to fall behind.
The proposal is contained within President Trump's $4.8 trillion federal budget for the fiscal year that ends in September 2021. However, the budget still needs to be approved by Congress. The budget does allude to the main goals for the Trump administration in the future.
Annual spending on AI would increase to over $2 billion and funding for quantum computing would increase to $860 million.
