Here are the main market catalysts and closing values for the major US indexes on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and the Nasdaq Composite all gained on Wednesday, according to CNBC.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 373.05 points, or 1.40 percent, to close at 27,201.52.
  • The S&P 500 gained 0.60 percent to close at 3,3327.77.
  • The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.50 percent to close at 10,998.40.

Johnson & Johnson gained 0.80 percent after the US government announced a deal to manufacture 100 million doses of its coronavirus vaccine candidate.

Disney shares surged 8.8 percent after it demolished analyst expectations.

ADP reported Wednesday that private payrolls increased by 167,000 in July. Dow Jones estimated 1 million new payrolls in July. In June, private payrolls came in at 4.314 million.

Tomorrow, weekly jobless claims will be released along with Uber earnings.
