All of the major US indexes closed with significant gains on Wednesday, according to CNBC.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 227.51 points, or 0.85 percent, to close at 26,870.10.
  • The S&P 500 gained 0.91 percent to close at 3,226.56.
  • The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.59 percent to close at 10,550.49.

The New England Journal of Medicine published data showing that Moderna's coronavirus vaccine produced neutralizing antibodies in all 45 patients in its early stage human trial. Shares of Moderna surged 6.90 percent. Goldman Sachs' second-quarter earnings beat analyst expectations with ease. The firm saw a 93 percent increase in trading revenue and shares rose 1.35 percent.

Tech stocks had another slow day as the market outpaced them. Amazon lost 2.44 percent, Alphabet lost 0.46 percent, and Microsoft lost 0.15 percent.

Next up, Domino's, Netflix, and several other companies are reporting earnings Thursday.
