Walmart Announces Face Masks Will Be Required In All Stores Beginning July 20
Walmart has just announced that they will be requiring face masks inside all of their US Walmart and Sam’s Clubs stores beginning on July 20, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The new requirement make Walmart the largest company to impose such restrictions, although they follow in the footsteps of Best Buy, Starbucks, and Costco in doing so. Of Walmart’s 5,000+ locations, 65 percent of them are located in areas where a government mask-mandate is already in place.
Questions over the legitimacy of facial coverings continue to fuel debates in the US, some of which have led to violent confrontations between workers and customers who refuse to put one on. Walmart says that they will have staff members near the entrance of the store to remind customers to wear a mask or hand out free ones to those that do not have one.
“Our associates will be trained on those exceptions to help reduce friction for the shopper and make the process as easy as possible for everyone,” said Operating Chief of Walmart US Dacona Smith and Sam’s Club Chief Operating Officer Lance De La Rosa.
To ensure consistency of the requirement and aid in enforcement of it, stores will have a single entrance point.
