Uber Sues Los Angeles
Uber Technologies Inc. is suing the Los Angeles Department of Transportation over the city's data collection attempts, according to The Wall Street Journal.
This has been an ongoing dispute between the two parties with several threats to bring it to court, which has now materialized. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation requires that Uber share the real-time location data for its scooter fleet.
Transportation authorities believe that they need this location information to manage traffic on public streets and reduce hazards caused by the scooters. Furthermore, they strip the data of personal information and treat it as classified.
Uber's concern is that the government will misuse the information and use it to monitor the daily life of Los Angeles residents. However, Uber recently started sharing real-time location data with Los Angeles to avoid the removal of its scooter from the city.
