Here are the main market catalysts and closing values for the major US indexes on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell, but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite posted gains on Tuesday, according to CNBC.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 60.02 points, or 0.20 percent, to close at 28,248.44.
  • The S&P 500 gained 0.40 percent to close at 3,443.62.
  • The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.80 percent to close at 11,466.47.

The US Census reported that sales of newly built homes surged 36 percent in July. However, the Conference Board's consumer confidence index fell for the second consecutive month.

Salesforce, Amgen, and Honeywell all posted gains after it was announced that they would be added to the Dow later this month.

On Wednesday, weekly mortgage applications data and durable goods orders will be released.
