Sanders Takes a Jab at Bezos’ Washington Post
Bernie Sanders claimed on Monday that the Washington Post is not one of his great supporters because of his criticism of its owner Jeff Bezos, according to Business Insider.
Sanders, a Democratic presidential nominee, has attacked Bezos for Amazon’s treatment of workers. Sanders has pushed for Amazon to introduce a minimum wage of $15 an hour and implement better working hours for Amazon employees. Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world and owns Amazon, the Washington Post, and a number of other businesses.
The executive editor of the Washington Post, Marty Baron, said in response to the comments, "Sen. Sanders is a member of a large club of politicians — of every ideology — who complain about their coverage. Contrary to the conspiracy theory the senator seems to favor, Jeff Bezos allows our newsroom to operate with full independence, as our reporters and editors can attest."
A CNN journalist compared Sanders’ comments to Donald Trump’s many anti-media comments. Trump has frequently referred to the Post as “the Amazon Washington Post.”
The comments show a general discontent with the media among politicians that they aren’t being shown in the best light.
