Reddit Named Michael Seibel as its First Black Board Director
Reddit has named Y Combinator CEO Michael Seibel on Wednesday as the firm’s first black board director, according to Observer.
Seibel will replace Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian, who stepped down from the company’s board last week and urged to be replaced by a black candidate. Reddit posted on Twitter, saying, “Michael brings an extensive background in growing social tech companies and is passionate about increasing diversity with the industry.”
Y Combinator funded Reddit when the firm launched in 2005. Sam Altman, Y Combinator’s former president, is an early investor and now a board member in Reddit. Seibel was Y Combinator’s first black partner when he joined in 2014. He has supported more than 1,800 startups and founded Socialcam and Justin.TV which later became Twitch.
“I’ve known Steve [Huffman] and Alexis since 2007 and have been a Reddit user ever since,” Seibel said in a statement on Wednesday. “I’m excited to help provide advice and guidance as Reddit continues to grow and tackle the challenges of bringing community and belonging to a broader audience.”
