Here are the main market catalysts and closing values for the major US indexes on Monday, August 24, 2020.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and the Nasdaq Composite posted gains on Monday, according to CNBC.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 378.13 points, or 1.35 percent, to close at 28,308.46.
  • The S&P 500 gained 1.00 percent to close at 3,431.28.
  • The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.60 percent to close at 11,379.72.

Investors cheered positive news from coronavirus treatments and vaccines. The number of daily infections in the US has not been greater than 49,000 recently. Yesterday, there was less than 37,000 new confirmed cases. “The US is soon becoming one of the safest places in the World. And if this is true, capital will also want to seek the US,” which means “stocks rise further,” said Tom Lee, head of research at Fundstrat Global Advisors.

Apple broke above $500 per share and gained 1.2 percent. Shares of Delta and American Airlines rose by 9 and 10 percent, respectively.

On Tuesday, consumer confidence data and new home sales numbers will be released.
