The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite fell on Monday.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 89.28 or 0.29 percent, to close at 31,008.69.
  • The S&P 500 fell 0.66 percent to close at 3,799.61.
  • The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.25 percent to close at 13,036.43.

Stocks took a pause after closing at all-time highs last week.

“Unprecedented is an overused word these days, but this past week it was used often and without hyperbole,” Societe Generale strategist Klaus Baader said on Monday morning. “Markets are looking past Trump's final days. The inauguration on Jan. 20 is a key event. Policy supports, both fiscal and monetary, will be crucial for investor confidence. Reflation is the theme. Further stimulus can help in the short term.”
