Here are the main market catalysts and closing values for the major US indexes on Monday, July 27, 2020.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and the Nasdaq Composite all posted gains on Monday, according to CNBC.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 114.88 points, or 0.43 percent, to close at 26,584.77.
  • The S&P 500 gained 0.74 percent to close at 3,239.41.
  • The Nasdaq Composite surged 1.67 percent to close at 10,536.27.

Gold prices surged to a new record high. The precious metal closed 1.8 percent higher at $1,931.50. Gold is now up more than 26 percent year-to-date.

Big tech shares surged during the session. Amazon gained 1.54 percent and Apple rose 2.37 percent. Facebook, Netflix, Alphabet, and Microsoft all closed higher as well.

The Federal Reserve policy meeting starts tomorrow and runs through Tuesday.

McDonald's, Pfizer, Starbucks, and AMD are set to report earnings.
