Dr. Fauci is cautiously optimistic about the Moderna vaccine, while the US buys 300 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine

Moderna, a biotech company, revealed findings from their first trial of a potential coronavirus vaccine. The first phase involved 45 human volunteers, 8 of which developed a neutralizing antibody to prevent the virus from infecting them, according to a report by Business Insider.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said that neutralizing antibodies bind to the “business end of the virus and block its ability to infect." Fauci has acknowledged the premature nature of this development but says that he is “cautiously optimistic” about the potential of it.

Many companies have been working on developing a vaccine, and recently, the US government gave AstraZeneca, a British pharmaceutical company, up to $1.2 billion in order to obtain 300 million doses of their experimental vaccine.

The US has made similar deals with other companies as well.
