How the Coronavirus Affects the Restaurant Industry
The novel coronavirus COVID-19 has drastically hurt many businesses in the restaurant industry, according to Edgeworth Analytics.
The restaurant industry was running smoothly until March. On March 16, the White House issued guidance that recommended all Americans avoid groups of more than 10 and stay away from bars, restaurants, and food courts.
However, a day before the White House guidance, seated diners across the US reported a 48 percent decrease. This also negatively affects employees who depend on dine-in experience for tips. The restaurant industry employs 15.3 million people.
Most states have followed the White House guidance and changed operations to carry out only. In Ohio, 10 percent of the workforce relies on the restaurant industry. It will be a breath of fresh air for restaurant owners and workers once consumers can sit down for a bite again.
