Distributed firms have been business as usual as many large firms have struggled to make the switch to remote operations. Startups, for example, start out as distributed firms to avoid paying high rent, especially in places like silicon valley.
There is a large arsenal of tools remote businesses can use. Slack allows employees to communicate through a message chat system. Zoom allows employees to hold online conferences. Miro allows employees to write on virtual whiteboards for brainstorming.
However, this could push some businesses to make the permanent switch to remote operations. Technology will continue to advance and the capabilities and benefits of online operations will grow exponentially.
