House Reaches Spending Bill to Avoid Government Shutdown
On Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that an agreement had been reached for a spending bill, according to CNBC.
The bill will fund the government into December and avoid a shutdown before a September 30 deadline. The House passed the bill late Tuesday night in an "overwhelming vote." Now, the legislation will be voted on by the Republican-held Senate.
Pelosi stated that the proposal includes $8 billion in nutrition assistance for schoolchildren and families. Furthermore, it extended the Pandemic EBT program that helped provided food benefits while schools are closed.
The bill will fund the government through December 11. Now, Congress looks to pass a spending bill to fund the government through September 30, 2021.
