The $1200 stimulus check won't cover one month's rent in some places but will cover almost 3 months in others, according to CNBC.

Lawmakers are still gridlocked as they debate the next stimulus package. However, they have agreed on another round of direct payments. The unemployment rate is still around 10.2 percent.

The problem is that $1200 won't be enough for those living in regions with a high cost of living, most being in California and Virginia.

The median rents for the following counties are well above $1,200 per month.

  • San Mateo, CA ($2,158)
  • Santa Clara, CA ($2,126)
  • Marin, CA ($1,970)
  • Arlington, VA ($1,936)
  • Fairfax City, VA ($1,899)
  • Falls Church City, VA ($1,860)
  • San Francisco, CA ($1,805)
  • Orange, CA ($1,777)
  • Nantucket, MA ($1,765)

The stimulus check is basically a gesture to residents in these areas.

However, many counties have median rents below $1,200 where the stimulus check would service them for months.

  • Owsley, KY ($318)
  • Clay, GA ($340)
  • Cottle, TX ($356)
  • Pope, IL ($371)
  • Guadalupe, NM ($373)
  • Kemper, MS ($377)
  • Grant, NE ($380)
  • Roosevelt, MT ($418)
  • Jefferson, MS ($423)
  • Van Buren, TN ($426)
