The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq posted small gains on Friday, according to CNBC.
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 62.76 points, or 0.23 percent, to close at 26,671.95.
- The S&P 500 gained 0.28 percent to close at 3,224.73.
- The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.28 percent to close at 10,503.19.
Netflix shares fell 6.52 percent after the company's second quarter-earnings disappointed investors. Netflix also gave weak guidance for third-quarter subscriber growth. Other big tech companies also pulled back. Amazon shares lost 1.26 percent, Microsoft lost 0.51 percent, and Apple lost 0.20 percent.
On Thursday, the US reported a record 77, 200 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University. The total number of confirmed US infections is now above 3.57 million. Deaths related to the virus are now greater than 138,000. “There’s definitely a sense of nervousness in the market,” said one trader.
Next week, more companies are reporting earnings. IBM, Coca-Cola, and Microsoft are up next.
