Chris Sacca Starts Green VC Fund
Chris Sacca, one of the decade’s most successful venture capitalists, retired in 2017. However, Sacca recently just opened a new firm called Lowercarbon Capital, according to a report by Axios.
Sacca’s company focuses on startups that develop “technologies to reduce CO2 emissions, remove carbon from the atmosphere, and actively cool the planet.” While some clean-tech investment circles criticize participation from major oil companies like Chevron and ExxonMobil, Sacca encourages it.
The company is currently set up as a family office with Sacca’s wife Crystal as the co-founder. Apart from a few special-purpose donations from places with institutional investors from Sacca’s prior funds, the company has not accepted any outside money.
Sacca’s investment in the initiative could push others to begin participation in clean-tech companies, too.
