Bezos Just Sold $3 Billion Worth of Amazon Stock
Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos sold more than $3 billion worth of shares in his company this week, according to CNBC.
Filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission confirmed the sale. Bezos has been actively selling his shares in the company this year. In August, he sold around $3.1 billion worth of shares. In February, he sold around $4.1 billion worth of shares. In total, Bezos has liquidated more than $10.2 billion worth of shares in 2020.
He still owns more than 53 million shares worth around $170 billion, cementing him as the richest person in the world. According to the SEC filing, this sale was made as part of a prearranged 10b5-1 trading plan.
Bezos has stated in the past that he has predetermined sales of about $1 billion Amazon stock each year to fund his startup, Blue Origin. In February, he launched a $10 billion Earth Fund to combat climate change.
