Berkshire Hathaway Underperforms Most Since 2009
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. underperformed in 2019, only delivering an 11 percent return, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In comparison, the S&P500 index including dividends delivered a 31.5 percent total return. Berkshire Hathaway's 11 percent return is its biggest underperformance since 2009 when the US was battling the great recession.
However, Warren Buffet is not renowned by the investing world for his short term gains. He is a long term investor and made sure to reaffirm that to the investors.
On Saturday, Buffett released his annual letter to the shareholders of Berkshire Hathway. In the letter, he addressed investor concerns about the future of the company once he or Vice Chairmain Charlie Munger pass away. Warren is 89 years old and Munger is 96.
“Your company is 100% prepared for our departure,” Mr. Buffett said.
