The facility will employ more than 3,000 people that will work on technology, including software engineering and machine learning. This is the next step in Apple's efforts to expand beyond its headquarters in Cupertino, California. Apple also recently opened a $1 billion campus in Austin, Texas that is expected to open next year.
“As a North-Carolina native, I’m thrilled Apple is expanding and creating new long-term job opportunities in the community I grew up in,” said Apple COO Jeff Williams. Apple is not the only major tech firm to expand out of California. Recently, Oracle announced that it plans to move its headquarters to Austin, Texas.
Apple employs more than 100,000 individuals and has the largest market capitalization of any company on a US exchange.
