Roy Moore, an Alabama Republican who won the party’s nomination in a special election to fill Jeff Sessions’ Senate seat, last month blamed the Sandy Hook shooting on a lack of respect for “the law of God.”
“You wonder why we’re having problems? Newtown, Connecticut? All across our country, with killings, stealing, committing adultery? Because we’ve forgotten the law of God,” Moore said at an Aug. 24 event defending religious liberties.
CNN was first to report on the footage of the former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court addressing a group at an Alabama church.
"You wonder why we're having shootings, and killings here in 2017? Because we've asked for it," Moore said. "We've taken God out of everything. We've taken prayer out of school, we've taken prayer out of council meetings."
