Evangelical fundamentalists love to blame America’s mass shootings and natural disasters on the country’s supposed wandering away from the God of Christianity, and following the recent shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, at least one pastor was right on cue.
According to Friendly Atheist, evangelist Ray Comfort claimed over the weekend that Americans today cannot adequately discern good and evil, because there are not enough Ten Commandments displays.
Comfort claimed in a video that “… once again, experts are mystified as to why this is happening so often. The answer to this question isn’t complicated. As a nation, we’ve thrown out the Ten Commandments, and that’s left a generation without a measuring rod of good and evil…”
Friendly Atheist noted the ridiculousness of Comfort’s claim, writing, “he acts like shooters would see the phrase “Thou shalt not kill” — after they made it through the earlier ones about not worshiping false idols or taking the Lord’s name in vain — and suddenly put their guns away.”
